The Goldfields domination of the 1st Division in the annual 8 ball country championships continued last weekend, when the team defended their title from the previous year, going through the round robin format undefeated.

The Goldfields have dominated the premier division in recent years, having won 4 titles and been runner-up 3 times over the last 7 years.

Adding further icing to a winning cake, Lockie Smith and Jake Persello were the stand-out players, topping the standings on the individual list, while Brody Conroy made the singles final, before falling short against the number one seed Andy Barnett, who earlier this season took out the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Open.

In domestic competition last week, the undefeated run of the Star and Garter pirates came to an end, when defending winter premiers, the Grand Trolley Boys inflicted the Pirates first loss since last winters final, while the Grand Spartans run of close losses continued, when they were edged out by the Country Club Cobra’s.

In the 2nd Division , the Grand Tigers continue to head the table, after a hard fought 9-8 win over the Rack and Pack, while the Grand Workers recent hot form continued when they proved too strong for the Troupe.

Other winners were the Main Reef Breakers and Gala Warriors.

In tonight’s matches, the Star and Garter Pirate’s will be looking at bouncing back from a rare loss, when they host the Cobra’s, while the Main Reef Breakers will be trying to put themselves back into finals contentions, when they are paid a visit by the Gala Gladiators.

8 Ball action continues the weekend when the annual mixed doubles is played.

Teams will consist of a 1st and 2nd Division player and will be randomly drawn prior to commencement.

Nominations close at 1.00pm, for a 1.30pm start.
